Multi-Factor Authentication for Your EVgo Account

EVgo is rolling out multi-factor authentication, or MFA, to help protect your account.

What is multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a second step to confirm it’s you during sign-in.

How does MFA work?

When you sign in, EVgo may send a one-time verification code to the phone number on your account. You’ll need to enter that code to verify your identity.

When will I be asked to verify my identity?

You may be asked to complete MFA when you:

  • Sign in to the EVgo app 
  • Access your account online 
  • Update sensitive account information 

How do I update my phone number?

Open the EVgo app, go to your profile, and review your account information. Update your phone number if needed.

Can I add a second phone number for MFA?

At this time, EVgo supports only one phone number per account for MFA. Allowing multiple phone numbers or phone number changes during login could increase the risk of unauthorized account access.

What if I’m in a parking garage or have poor cell service?

If you’re signing in from a parking garage or another area with limited cell service, you may have trouble receiving your one-time verification code. For the best experience, sign in before entering areas with poor reception.

Can multiple people use the same EVgo account?

For security reasons, each EVgo account should be used by one primary account holder with their own login credentials and phone number for multi-factor authentication.

If multiple drivers in your household or business need access to charging, we recommend setting up members in the EVgo app. Members will be added under your account and share its default payment as authorized users.

I’m having trouble with multi-factor authentication. What should I do?

If you’re unable to receive a verification code or are having trouble logging in, please contact our Customer Support team at support@evgo.com or 877-494-3833. We can verify your account details to confirm ownership and help restore access.
