Ever wish you could plug in and charge without an app or a program card? Autocharge+ allows EV drivers to do just that! No tapping, no cards. Just plug in and charge.

You should not enroll a rental EV with Autocharge+

If you do enroll a rented vehicle with Autocharge+, you must unenroll the vehicle completely. If you are still enrolled in Autocharge+, you are subject to all subsequent charges.

How Does Autocharge+ Work?

For drivers enrolled in Autocharge+, your EV will communicate with the charger so that the EVgo network recognizes the vehicle is tied to your account. This means that the charger will start dispensing electrons as soon as you plug in - no other action needed!  


What vehicles are Autocharge+ compatible?

Autocharge+ is only available for EVs with CCS connectors supporting two-way vehicle data-sharing functionality. The good news is that most EVs with CCS connectors support this feature (including older EV models). The following models are currently compatible:

Cadillac LYRIQ, Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, Rivian R1T and R1S, Ford Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, Genesis GV60, GV70 and G80 Electrified, GMC Hummer EV, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Kona, Kia Niro and EV6, Mercedes EQS, EQB and EQE, Polestar 2, Subaru Solterra, Toyota bZ4x, Nissan ARIYA, and the Volvo C40.

Tesla compatibility: The new Tesla CCS1 Adapter is now available to use on the EVgo network, which means Tesla Model X, Y, S, S Plaid and 3 are eligible to enroll in Autocharge+. You will need to BYOC (Bring your Own Connector!) Visit The Tesla Shop for more information on this product.

Some EV manufacturers do not produce compatible models, so they cannot enroll in Autocharge+. EV models that use CHAdeMO connectors do not have a unique identifier and cannot use Autocharge+.

Important note:

You can enroll a rental EV with Autocharge+, however, don’t forget to unenroll when you return your vehicle! If still enrolled, you are subject to all subsequent charges.



How to enroll in Autocharge+ 

You must enroll in Autocharge+ through the EVgo app.  (If you don't already have the EVgo app, you can download it for Android and iOS devices.)

**Please note that if you drive an EV made by GM, you must use the GM app to enroll. Find more details below.

  1. From the landing page, tap the menu icon () in the top left
  2. Select Vehicles within the Main Menu panel
  3. You will see 'Eligible for Autocharge+' in the vehicle summary of any eligible EV models; tap the vehicle to open the Vehicle Details screen
  4. Below the Vehicle Details, you'll see the Autocharge+ section - tap Request to enroll to get started! 
    • You may need to verify your VIN before completing enrollment
  5. To complete enrollment, you must initiate a charge. The app will prompt you through the following steps:
    1. Visit an EVgo fast charger
    2. Select the CCS connector at the charging station
    3. Confirm the vehicle you wish to enroll when you arrive at the charger
    4. Plug in the CCS connector within 60 seconds of confirming the vehicle

Once plugged in, your EV communicates its unique identifier to EVgo, which we then link to your EVgo account.  Now you’re officially set-up! That means every time you plug in on our network, your charging session will start automatically.

Autocharge+ FAQs

Can I turn off Autocharge+ after I’ve enrolled?

Absolutely. You can unenroll any vehicle from Autocharge+ (just like wiping your phone before selling it). You can access Un-enrollment through the Autocharge Management screen of the EVgo app.

Why am I getting an error when I try to add my VIN and enroll in Autocharge+?

At times, our users experience errors when enrolling. Those errors are usually very specific to the vehicle - depending on your needs, you may see some of the below:

  • VIN in use error
    • Is your EV a used vehicle? Whether it was recently purchased or a rental, the EVgo app will not allow Autocharge+ enrollment for the same vehicle in more than one account. It's possible that whoever last drove or owned the vehicle has an EVgo account and forgot to unenroll the vehicle from their account.
    • Use this link to submit a form to the EVgo Charging Crew - the team will look more closely into the issue and add your vehicle to your account, removing it from any incorrect accounts as needed.
  • VIN not available error
    • Is your vehicle model fresh on the EV market? While we do our best to research and add all new EV models into our app well before our customers can drive them, we don't always catch them all!
    • Use this link to submit a form to the EVgo Charging Crew, who can ensure your vehicle model is added to our system and your account!
  • Generic Error - won't accept the VIN entered
    • Double-check that the VIN was scanned/entered correctly. All VINs are 17 characters and include a specific alphanumeric string identifying your vehicle. Our system checks for the specific criteria to ensure that the correct VIN is added each time. 


I’m concerned about security.  Will someone else be able to charge using my identifier?

EVgo has several processes in place to detect potential fraud. 

First, you should always enable notifications from EVgo if you enroll in Autocharge+. We'll always send a notification when any Autocharge+ session has started. If you suspect a session that isn't yours, contact the EVgo Charging Crew right away; you can call the team at 877-494-3833 for 24/7 assistance.

There are also situations where we'll automatically stop a session if we suspect fraud - if the time, location, and State of Charge (SoC) are impossible or improbable, the session will be stopped. For example, if your account is used to start a charge in California and then to start a charge in Ohio ten minutes later, this will be flagged as potential fraud. Any members potentially impacted by fraud will be notified, and we'll require confirmation to allow Autocharge+ before proceeding.


I drive an EV made by GM and want to enroll in Plug and Charge. Is that the same thing as Autocharge+?

While the names are a bit different, the process for GM's Plug and Charge is exactly the same as EVgo's Autocharge+. GM customers can enroll in GM’s Plug and Charge (and EVgo Autocharge+) using GM myBrand Enrollment.

GM customers can enroll at any time and don’t need to be at an EVgo charger to complete enrollment. Check out the app for your specific GM vehicle (like myChevrolet or myCadillac) for more details.
