If you have an EVgo account and ordered an EVgo RFID program card, then you can use it to quickly start a charge after it's been activated. When you arrive at the charger:
- Select the appropriate connector for your vehicle
-
Insert the connector into your EV’s charge port
- Be sure to listen for the click!
- Select the RFID payment option on the charger screen
-
Tap your RFID program card where indicated on the charger until you hear a beep
- Be sure not to tap and remove the RFID card too quickly; it can help to almost rub the card against the RFID reader.
- Check that no other magnetic or electrical objects, like a phone, are interfering with the signal.
- On some chargers, you'll tap your RFID to the credit card reader.
- If you have signed up to receive alerts, you'll receive a notification that your vehicle has started a charge!

Quick tips from the EVgo Charging Crew:
-
Be sure to activate your RFID Program Card!
- To keep your account secure while the card is in transit, we require you to activate every RFID Program Card once received. Learn more on card activation
-
Give the reader enough time to recognize the card.
- Be sure not to tap and remove the RFID card too quickly; you will hear a beep when it recognizes the card. It can help to almost rub the card against the RFID reader.
-
Be careful of anything interfering with the signal.
- RFID readers will try to read anything digital nearby, such as a phone, smart watch, or even a magnetic bracelet. Keep your devices and other cards away from the reader as you tap your EVgo RFID Program Card.
-
Consider replacing the card if there is damage.
- Like many RFID-enabled cards, certain conditions can cause damage to the card (such as exposure to high heat, water, extreme bending, strong magnets, or held too close to a mobile device for extended periods).
- If a card is physically damaged, it may be time to deactivate it and request a new RFID Program Card.
- We recommend treating your RFID Program Card like a credit card and keeping it in a safe, flat space in your wallet.
- Some charging stations require tapping your RFID to the credit card reader. Check for signage that will tell you do do this.
-
Contact us if a specific charger continually has trouble reading the card.
- If you know your RFID Program Card works at most locations, but you seem to have regular issues at a specific charger, please reach out to our EVgo Charging Crew to let us know!
